steffan12
I have find to my surprise in my search for a theme for my e-Commerce site that there is a general lack of outstanding or “wow” type themes for Prestashop. I chose to use Prestashop for my e-Commerce site first, now after I have spent a long time looking at every theme I could find they all appear to be out of the box and a bit stilled, I’m sorry to say I am disappointed at all themes I have seen… except in one case. I had a budget above the price of even the most expensive premium themes one can find but when I considered these, they quickly just became not that much more interesting than some of the free themes. Is it the case that prestashop is the problem and will not allow for a more expressive or different theme to be designed?
tomerg3
Prestashop has no restrictions with regards to themes, any design can be created using Prestashop, and the reason why most of the themes are boring, is probably because most of the designers try to reuse a lot of their code, and do no put much effort into a real unique design.then again, if you want a wow site, you probably need your own design... MrBaseball34
I think what he meant to say was that it also is fairly difficult to create custom themes in PS due to its architecture.

I did not mean to say that at all.Any design can be converted into Prestashop, but you need to know Prestashop in order to do it correctly. There are many beautiful shops that are using Prestashop with a custom made design that look nothing like the boring paid / free themes. All you need a designer with some creativity, and a Prestashop programmer that knows how to convert a design into Prestashop without making a mess. I did not mean to say that at all. I meant the original poster (steffan12) meant to say that it is difficult to theme PS. I knew you wouldn't say that. For what it's worth, I totally agree that it is very difficult to theme PS. There are way too many objects that have the same class to make the CSS easier to modify. I have found this the case while looking for a theme for PS. I understand a live demo's of ones work should showcase your style of design and your ability make a theme, but I was offered over and over was simply a modified demo with what I wanted in the terms of functions added with modules and not lets start with the functions needed then work on the important design. ruben6
I agree there aren't enough Prestashop themes that are suitable for a serious shop. But if you put a lot of time into the project or hire a good theme designer to do that for you, you can get a great shop with Prestashop. Some Prestashop stores I really like:ArchiduchesseKiss me zombieRU connected And my own shop ofcourse
MrBaseball34
This may give you a better idea as to how to go about themeing PS:http://www.daveegerton.com/prestashop-guides/Prestashop-Designers-Guide/Themes/modifying-the-default-prestashop-theme.html
steffan12
Thank you for your helpful posts. I am happy to pay for a custom theme but I found that immediately put PS above the price range of other E-carts and more after adding basic (pay for) modules. Not forgetting the fact that PS is self (the nuts and bolts) are O/S, and here is my question, is the platform so tricky, hard to work with, needing superiors skills etc. that a designer needs so much more time to make a theme using this platform as apposed to other solutions, resulting in leaving no time from the budget to produce a better than most theme?
