Question about 1.1beta2 (maintenance access)

Recommended Posts

Dear PS developers =P
Can I ask how will this feature that allow the entrance to the shop on maintenance status?. Because if you try that way with specific IPs it will be a headache for those who has dynamic IP, isn't it?.
I tried that and was horrible. Therefore I added a "Access Key" to allow the access for adminstrators. (Take a look: http://www.paulinasfurniture.com.au).
I'm not an expert in PHP and maybe is vulnerable but it works and much better than with IPs.

Regards!.

a key is much more likely to be hacked than a ip (just because of the fact that the key is explicit requested)

greetings

That's right I know but what can you do in case of dynamic IP?. There must be another way. Maybe a php developer can do something better with an access key. =/

You can always access the back office though even if your IP changes..... when it does, you update the authorised one, and you're back into the Front Office again.

You do realise that you're only meant to have your store in maintenance mode for short periods....

To facilitate sales it's a good idea to have your site accessible by customers :P

LOL I forgot that this new feature will be managed from the admin panel. I told you that guys because I was trying this but adding IPs directly in code haha. Was terrible.
By the way... I know that customers have to see the site lol but my case is about "Developing" status ;)
