Country code in urls (Language Packs)

MSN

Recommended Posts

What is the consensus for removing ISO code from urls: You add new language pack's to your site then the problem start's or worse you're not American and Select GB as your language pack and the /gb ISO code display's in your URL structure

yourwebsite.com/gb

yourwebsite.com/fr

yourwebsite.com/it

There are two conflicting post's on this

Change htaccess

@maio https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/236630-remove-language-extensions-through-htaccess/

Change  index.php

@daniel2211 https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/266862-remove-default-language-from-folder/

Any perspective or clarity on this would be highly welcomed for all 1.7 users

agree with you 100%

we wrote

https://www.prestaheroes.com/en-us/modules/seo-modules/prestashop-module-seo-friendly-language-url-pro

this modules uses same technique as azure.com

en-us/en-gb/es-es/es-ar

it's so slick that sitemap module automatically works.

this goes beyond old techniques of ccTLD domains....

total sold?  0  lol..ahead of our time but I run on my own shop.....

so rather than remove them...you can improve seo by using fully qualified language url...google loves them people!

maybe in another year or two people will catch up with us as it concerns some of our geo work....

happy selling, el

@El Patron I looked and tested Azure.com on a VPN it works pretty well.

El for example say your UK store on www.elpatron.co.uk - US is default language

how do you go about adding the GB language pack as default from US, as www.elpatron.co.uk/gb is unnecessary to the structure of the site

first start with a devcopy of your shop, there you can test safely.  before 1.7 importing gb/us english packs is a bit tricky but it can be done.  as for the language code....I'm not sure  exactly I understand your question....honestly for us/gb...showing /en/ for both is fine.  If you used my work and my adv lang detect you could serve en-us (USA)0 AND en-gb for (UK'ers)....at the end of they day xx-yy codes is 'now' best practice and gives  higher signal than a ccTLD (.uk/.de/.fr/..)......funny, released lang url module over year ago and still have not sold one....lol....price of being ahead of the curve.

@El Patron Will the plugin be released for 1.7 - I'm willing to be your first customer

how often are updates handled?

Hi sorry for late reply  we have had so many other project it detracts from my passion.

I'm  kicking this  work to upgrade module to 1.7 but with some imporant new feature.

example of new feature:  you would not need to add a language pack for each country,  for example en can be used to multiplex en-us,en-fb,en-ca etc.  without the need to import all those packs and more importantly to 'maintain'.....english is english wehter your use while or whilst....

did you know this module never sold one!  can you imagine?  this moudle replaces need for a ccTLD stragety (multishop), is 100% compatibile with PS google sitemap and google loves it.  Developing is like peeing in a blue suit, it's warm feeling but noboyd notices.

ImOnIt (upgrade)....el

Hi @PrestaHeroes USA

You've now sold at least one!!

I just ran into an issue. We use SEO Pro, which (among other things) strips the cat and prod id's from the URL.

Now these two module are conflicting each other, apparently by trying to override the code which forms the URL.

Is there any workaround for this?
