Need help with product id for friendly url

Hi, is it possible to change the product id friendly url format by replacing the "product id" with the "product reference" and also remove the "html"? What files can we change to achieve this effect?

E.g:
Product Id: 7
Product Reference: 2010jul0531

/2010jul0531-ipod-touch instead of /7-ipod-touch.html

Any help is really appreciated.
