Jason Seale
Hi All:I have a client looking for hosting that offers the full requirements for the latest build of Prestashop, which seem to be:PHP 5.3+MySQL 5.1+Apache 1.3+ or IIS 6+This short list is based on the following considerations, copied from the PrestaShop download page:- Linux, Unix, or Windows- Web Server (Apache 1.3 or later, IIS 6 or later)- PHP 5.0* or later- MySQL 5** or later* Some PHP 5 versions are bugged and prevent PrestaShop from working correctly: - PHP 5.2.1 (authentication is impossible)- PHP 5.2.6 (authentication is impossible under 64bits servers)- PHP 5.2.9 (image management/upload broken)- PHP < 5.2 (invalid date timezone)** PrestaShop is working from MySQL 4.1.14 to 5.0 too but some features are not working (e.g., product duplication) or have strange behaviors
tomerg3
I use and recommend Bluehost for all the sites I develop, they offer unlimited database space, unlimited hard drive space, and unlimited bandwidth (traffic). They also have excellent 24/7 live support. If you choose to use Bluehost, please use this link as I am an affiliate ( http://www.bluehost.com/track/tomer )I have just added a page with some installation tips to my site which you may also find useful http://www.presto-changeo.com/content/14-prestashop-installation-tips
Jason Seale
Thanks, but unfortunately, Blue Host only has PHP 5.2.3 ... and said they could not upgrade at this time.Anyone else with any suggestions?
Shaun
I've just switched my sites to MDD Hosting with Lightspeed and have never been happier. GZIP compression comes standard and accessing my sites through the back end is FAST! Check them out, do a little research. I use Prestashop ver 1.3.1 without any issue. tomerg3
Thanks, but unfortunately, Blue Host only has PHP 5.2.3 ... and said they could not upgrade at this time.Anyone else with any suggestions? I run multiple test sites for all my modules on it using 1.3.1, and I did not have any issues with that php version. They have a very secure server, and have proper file permissions. They allow permission level 755 with writing from PS (which is much safer than 777), and loading a module from the backoffice without any problems (many poorly configured servers change the owner and group for those modules)Edit: I just noticed you said they have 5.2.3, they actually use 5.2.23 which works just fine. If BlueHost is speedy enough for you then that's awesome but most of the complaints I've personally seen have been about the servers being sluggish.Edit: I just noticed you said they have 5.2.3, they actually use 5.2.23 which works just fine. I think perhaps you are mistaken as the latest version of PHP 5.2.X is 5.2.14.http://php.net/releases/index.phphttp://php.net/downloads.php
tomerg3
You are right, they are using 5.2.13, which to the best of my knowledge works just fine with PS.You have no idea how many customers who buy my modules have permission issues on their server, this is why I make a point of letting people know about it before deciding on a host, it can save you a lot of stress down the line. They seem speedy enough for small to medium size sites, but if you plan on having more than 10,000 products and 30,000+ monthly visitors, you may want to consider a dedicated / semi-dedicated host. MikeDVB
Being a software developer myself I fully understand why you said what you said. I was just being a bit more general.
