AutoSyn
I am getting ready to build a cart for a company based out of FL. Unlike many other states, FL has a state tax (6%) and a county by county tax which can vary from .5 to 1.5% Basically, the way our FL statues and laws work here is that tax is based on the destination of the buyer, NOT of the shop location. So when an item is bought by a FL resident, total tax is 6% + X% amount determined by county. I know I can determine tax by state with the default cart setup, but from a legal standpoint that wont work for my client. Is there a third party module or some way I can modify the existing software so it includes every single county for FL?

Matthieu Biart
Hi AutoSyn!Yes no reply since you posted your question in the wrong forum :'-(This forum is not about setting PrestaShop correctly to fit your localization but about notifying legal issues (tax & law) in order to point and implement what is missing. Now that I've moved your topic, you should start to get some answers ;-)

AutoSyn
Bump.I cant be the only one out there that is facing this problem with having to do county by county taxes?
HumanBlade
*bump*Setting up a shop in New York. Same exact thing. Tax has to be calculated for shipping address. Based on political boundaries, which not all zipcodes remain within, so no quick db lookup to automagically apply.May have to add conditional php for shipping address page. Shipping address in same state, a dropdown for counties is unhidden via jquery or something. asterisk to inform customer of necessity. have to tie that into the zones system as well.I don't know if every prestashop in the USA is calculating tax based on local tax and applying it no matter where delivered within the state, or if they're only applying state tax without local tax. I'd like to stay legal Are other users getting around this somehow, or even aware of the issue?
AutoSyn
HumanBlade,Honestly, I didnt spend my time continuing to research this kink in the cart system. In fact, if you do a quick look around you will find out that most every popular and support cart system out there right now doesnt support taxes beyond the state level. I still find it very odd that this hasnt been an area of interest to developers to further enhance and make it a permanent feature since its definitely an area that needs to be dealt with.I will say that I know other businesses whom Ive contacted about this and how they handle it is that they just take an average between the lowest and highest percentage. For example, FL is 6% state with a range of 0 to 1.5%, so the average is just to set tax at 7%. Is that the correct way to do it? Not really. Is it legal? Probably not. Do I recommend anyone who reads this do the same thing? I am merely giving my opinion, you do with it as you please Im not responsible for your actions I would still love to see someone come in here though with a module upgrade or detailed write-up on how set taxes beyond the state level. MYFRENCHNEIGHBOR
It seems that county tax is included in PS 1.4 RC6 but i don't succeed to configure it. I asked the developers, i will let you know if i find.
