Admin logging in after renaming issues

New user here (...coming running and screaming AWAY from Magento)..installed on WAMP server...all went good. Tried install on production server (VPS) and all went good until the rename admin part (as I've read many other instances of here).

I typically set my configurations to run PHP as FastCGI application due to my experiences with other CMS's running under apache setting the file owner/group as apache/apache.

I went through all the renaming, cleaning cookies, changing permissions etc. etc. that I found other people posted but it wasn't until I set PHP to run as APACHE that the admin renaming finally worked and fixed this issue for me.

I was able to set BACK to FastCGI after getting it to work once so it appears this might be more of a PHP/PHP session issue than anything else??

Anyway..hope this helps others or if a dev can shed further light on the best environment here that would be great as well.
