Installed. Accessed Back End & could see Front End ...BUT

Hi there,

I'm a newbie & I've been struggling with my prestashop installation.
As I listed in the title for this post I succeeded in completing a full installation.
Could accessed the back end & see the front end
BUT
the moment I clicked on update in the options on the "Appearance" menu both backend & frontend vanished.

Anyone encounter this before & have ideas on how to solve.

I'm using Godaddy Linux hosting

Is other BO menu functioning OK apart from "Preferences->Appearance" ??
Assume that you have installed the shop without samples, then the front end will only appear a logo. Click on modules to install some modules.
