Upgrading to 1.3

I would liike to upgrade my site to the 1.3. I have read over and over the installation instruction and I have come up with. The only way to upgrade is to delete my whole site and create a new database. I don't want to lose all the work I have done. I need a better way to upgrade or am I missing something. I dont' need anymore link to the manual has I have read that many times. I need a teacher to explain to me in simple terms how to make this happen.

What version are you on? Look up the WiKi under "Update Prestashop"
You can upgrade with the following procedure

the issue is that it's requesting that I have to create a new database? I can't put the information in from the database I'm using it says that data base is in use.

If you are upgrading, you do not need to create a new database. Did the upgrade radio button selectable ??? If not then you likely have missed out some procedures. One common thing is that you did not copy your original config/settings.inc.php file to the new setup.
