buy X and get Y free?

Wondering if this mod exists I've searched and didn't see anything quite matching this.

If a customer buys X he could get Y free (if he adds to cart, or it could add auto matic via a switch)

or customer spends X of $ and gets Y free

if anyone know of a mod like this please let me know

This is a discounting module, which has “Buy A, get B at a discount or free” and “Buy A, get a product from category B at a discount or free” options.

This module allows you to define several criterias to offers gifts to your customer.

It's perheaps not what you are looking for, but may help

thanks olea, thats what i'm looking for, just a little too expensive for my shop as i'm just starting up

There is a free option included in PS core.

Make a "pack" product, which include both articles X and Y.
admin -> Catalog -> Add a new product

Marl it as Pack and add products included. In description indicate second product is free, you can also indicate it in pack images.
