adibranch
Hi all, i'm going to be using prestashop for a few projects coming up, and find the forum useful.. but why dont the mods do their job and control the spam on here? The place is full of it, every day, its easy to spot yet gets left. Its not difficult to control it or implement measures to prevent it.Its ruining the forum, and given that community support is the cornerstone of any Open source project, it'll ultimately affect prestashop in general. MrBaseball34
This forum is a bastardized copy of PunBB and doesn't offer things like spam protection as well as a lot of other features that are nice, like being able to search subforums easily or mark the forums read.If you come upon a spam message, don't reply to it use the report link and report it to the admins. adibranch
i wouldnt expect reporting it to do a damn thing mate.. the forum is littered with the stuff so clearly nothing gets done. There are enough mods on here, and it all takes is to remove the post and member, or put an IP ban in, or restrict links and signatures to users with over 20 posts only. Most spammers wont make over 20 posts for a low quality nofollow link.If the forum is an old and custom copy of punBB, perhaps it needs to be updated, or archived and a new one implemented. This spam is a major problem in this forum.. i see it on nearly every thread, guaranteed. Most target the SEO forum though, so given that most stuff in there is utter drivel provided by the spammers themselves, just close the category. MrBaseball34
There are bigger fish to fry than this forum, although I don't know what that might be. Personally, I think they are just a bunch of lazy Frenchmen, taking their 60 days vacation. I've already complained about the lack of several features and they are not in the mood to upgrade. If they really cared about this product, they'd support it with first-class tools, such as a forum that works and actually gets some answers, especially by the developers. MrBaseball34
BTW, I DID report a couple of posts yesterday and they are both now gone out of the forum so I know they do sometimes get rid of them.
rocky
You should click the Report link to report spam and it will be deleted. All the moderators including me get sent an email every time someone clicks the Report link. I delete any reported spam that hasn't already been deleted by another moderator and do a scan of the forums once a day to delete spam and answer questions. I'm a volunteer and can't be online all the time, ready to delete all spam as it is posted. I know I've deleted thousands of spam posts on these forums. It is a never-ending battle. I wish I could bill spammers for the time I spend deleting their posts.
jeckyl
Hi,I report all spam i saw in this forum. But, if you want to participate to delete all spam you can become a moderator.it's a big job and all moderator work on it and thanks for all their job. adibranch
no thanks jeckyl.. i ran a large forum for five years.. have no desire to get involved with one again. The problem isnt reporting the spam.. sure we can all do that (but how many will?), its the fact that it gets here in the first place. Just make the post count 20 posts before you can add a signature or link.. job done. Five will never work, as spammers dont mind making up 5 posts.. but 20 is a little too much time to waste for a low quality link on a forum. tomerg3
but why dont the mods do their job and control the spam on here? I do as much as I can to control spam, but there are over 50,000 members, and only 2 English moderators.Instead of complaining, you can do something about it (IE become a moderator), the reason I became one was to help control the spam here.... jhnstcks
I volunteered to be a moderator when the call first went out for them but never heard anything back and just presumed that all the positions had been filled or they just didnt want me which is probabaly more the case. Also maybe the Prestashop team think that they only need 2 English mods + the community manager to moderate the forum. Its not difficult to control it or implement measures to prevent it. The moderators do what they can with the time they can allot to this task.I remind you that they do it for free, additionnaly to their professional activity. This forum is a bastardized copy of PunBB and doesn't offer things like spam protection as well as a lot of other features that are nice, like being able to search subforums easily or mark the forums read. No, this is not based on a PunBB forum, but I confess that this forum lacks a lot of important features. You can make a search into a given subforum with the Advanced Search tool.i wouldnt expect reporting it to do a damn thing mate.. the forum is littered with the stuff so clearly nothing gets done.If the forum is an old and custom copy of punBB, perhaps it needs to be updated, or archived and a new one implemented. Reported spam posts are always deleted, so please do not say that nothing gets done.I would really like this forum to be updated, but the PrestaShop team is already very busy on other projects, so I'm afraid this is actually not possible. There are bigger fish to fry than this forum, although I don't know what that might be. Personally, I think they are just a bunch of lazy Frenchmen, taking their 60 days vacation. I find this comment very unpleasant (and this is not the first time). All the PrestaShop team members work hard, and the developers work on different projects that allow PrestaShop to live. I did not take any holiday this summer, as well as some other members of the PrestaShop team.I volunteered to be a moderator when the call first went out for them but never heard anything back and just presumed that all the positions had been filled or they just didnt want me which is probabaly more the case. jhnstcks, I cannot tell you the reason, but if you are still interested, please let me know. Forgive me, I forgot it is an Expression Engine forum, totally whack if you ask me. I should not have to select which forums I want to search, the search engine should search the forum I'm in, isn't that what the prompt says, "Search *this* forum"? There are bigger fish to fry than this forum, although I don't know what that might be. Personally, I think they are just a bunch of lazy Frenchmen, taking their 60 days vacation. You folks DO NOT support your software worth a damn. Leaving support to a PEER support forum and not manning it with sufficient numbers of experts is certainly not the way to endear people to use your software, free or not. To be honest, if I had had to pay for this software, I would have chunked it out long ago due to the lack of support. I've pointed out several open source projects that have a huge following along with tremendous support, If you followed their model, you would be left with no competitors. But no, you must do it your own way, alienating your users with lack of DOCUMENTATION, lack of support and the attitude that you just do not care about them. I think you are really missing the point here. Putting Prestashop out on the internet and giving it away for free doesn't end your job, it BEGINS it. Software vendors need to support their software. The number of unanswered posts on this forum borders on insane. It is no wonder that people abandon your software and move on to more supported offerings such as Magneto. Like I've stated before, you want to play with the big boys, act like one.

As I already told you, our developer actually work on other projects to make the PrestaShop company (and then the solution) live. We actually cannot bring more support than we already do.Writing documentation also asks a lot of time. We already released 2 documentations in French and we hope to release them in English soon.PrestaShop is a young company which does its best to satisfy all those who use the solution. Most of the unanswered posts are generally asks for very personnal concerns requiring a real development job.And contrarily to what you pretend, more and more people use PrestaShop all over the world.
