Zeryk
I'm thinking of to upgrade from 1.6.1.12 to 1.6.1.17 , problem is I have done kind of many modifications on tpl , css and some php files as well during the time of using the shop. ( have all changes recorded ) . I have also done some custom translations in existing modules or front office pages, emails etc. If I proceed the upgrade, as I understand , all default files will get overwritten and so translations / modifications. My question : any other option how to upgrade just by overwriting certain files ( the actually changed / upgraded files ) ? How do I find those changes , files ? Any other idea how to proceed a safe upgrade? thanks Edited January 24, 2018 by Zeryk (see edit history)
bellini13
If using the upgrade module, you can specify to not update your theme, however you will not receive any updates to the theme. I would not suggest that. in the future, you should make a copy of the default theme, and then install the copy, and then make changes to it. This way you can allow the upgrade module to fully upgrade the store, without touching your theme, and then you can decide which changes should be applied to your theme. If you made any changes to core files (classes/controllers/modules etc..) they will be lost during the upgrade. To find out the changes you have made, you can download your entire store files as well as the original version of PS v1.6.1.12, and then use a file/folder comparison program to check for differences. Zeryk
Thanks, Im not worry about the changes, since I can put them back again ( have all recorded ), but what Im worry about is , that it will overwrite all clean URLs I made by one module Ive uploaded. It got rid of the category numbers which are in default in PS URLs and I have spent quite long time to sort out duplicate URLs after ( since one product is assigned to more than 1 category in menu ) . I have also custom URLs set up in categories ( in order to avoid duplic. again ) , so Im afraid that will get messed up again as well. ,I have only 2 problems with my current version. 1) wish list can't be deleted ( missing delete and default icons ) 2) loyalty points showing not properly in product detail ( it shows after adding to the basket ) , so its minor ,Ive sorted it with custom translation. The 1st one ( wish list ) bothers me the most, since customers piling up their wish list without option to delete , only just create another one. Bug report not helping. Just got an answer : update to latest version :-( Thanks for advice anyway, really appreciate it. TiaNex Shopping
it's safe to upgrade your store using the 1-key upgrade module, but it's most important to backup all your data and website files before that
El Patron
all upgrades should be done a 'copy' of your shop.... then all you questions will be answered there then when all good you can just make the upgraded shop your production version. i.e. golden rule...never...upgrade a production shop
Zeryk
I was just wondering, any particular modules should be ON/OFF during the upgrade? Or doesn't matter?

Thats a difficult question to answer, as there are hundreds of possible modules on the marketplace, and no one can possibly know which ones may cause upgrade issues. You simply need to test the upgrade on a test copy of your store and see how the process goes. If in doubt, delete/uninstall any modules that were not originally included with prestashop (ie.. modules included with a custom theme, or modules that you installed after the fact)

Just have problem with clean URL Faktiva on new upgrade. when installed back again ....not working :-(
bellini13
perhaps you should contact the author of that custom module for support?
