Is it possible to change the status without sending out an email?

I've come across this situation a few times already:

1) Customer buys two products, one of them is back-ordered

2) I send out the first product, but the second one means that the whole order status remains "Back-ordered"

3) The customer cancels the second product a week later, and I want to update the status to "Shipped"

At this point the customer would get a Shipping notification email, even though he bought the product a week ago!


So I was thinking it would be good if there was a checkbox or something that would be selected by default, but could be unchecked if needed. Is anyone aware of such a mod?

in back office

orders-->statuses

find status 'shipped', edit it and turn off Send e-mail to customer

 

Change the order status and turn on Send e-mail to customer again.
