Copying database.

Is it posible to copy the database from my friend's Prestashop site to my own Prestashop site? She has a range that I would like to include on my site but I prefer not to have to loade all categories and products manually.

Yes it is.. But you have to use your hosting provider's tools to do so, i.e unload her database in a .csv and then reload it into yours.

No need for a csv file, you can use the import option from phpmyadmin (you can also use my backup module http://www.presto-changeo.com/prestashop-modules/37-automatic-prestashop-backup.html).

I'm not too sure what you mean by "range" that you want, can you be more clear so I could tell you which table/s you need to copy.

When I said range, I meant a range of products. They are all soap products. I need to copy the categories, product descriptions and images.

I have just copied all of the files to the database as you said. They are there in MySQL but Ihey are not on the Prestashop web site. I can't find anything in the back office.
Do I need to do something else?

What files did you copy? the onlyt files I was talking about are the product images

I listed the database tables you need to copy from the old shop to the new shop (overwriting existing tables).

if you copied them properly, then the product will be there, if you browser the ps_products_lang in the new site, do you see the products from the old site there?

If not, than you did not copy them properly.

Thgis file is in admin passion_shoip.sql is in admin folder. Where shouild the ps_files be?

ps_ are not files, they are database tables (in the database), you should use phpMyAdmin to export / import them.

Not very lucid. I checked the phpadmin and all of the ps_ files have been copied from one database to the new site. No problem. However they are not on the new site. I need to know what to do now because they are not visible in the new site, front or back. Do I have to create new categories to match the imported ones before they appear. If not, what am I doing wrong, please?

If you copy those tables correctly, then they should just show on the new site.

Further to the last post, I have looked at the web site www.wotnots.eu and none of the products are there. I also see that my images have now vanished. I am sure that I must need to do something in back office. Either delete the existing products and categories and start afresh or something else.

No, the prefix is different. Do I need to change the recipient database to the same prefix? If so, how do I do this. I can delete the database in www.wotnots.eu and then create a new database to match the one from passion-savon.fr if that will work.
My hosting company say the following:
On a further check, we have checked all possibility settings like permissions/ownership in server, As it is a third party software(PrestaShop) , I could found this might be a bug of it. Please contact their support so as they can help you further. If they suggest any settings in the server which they want to fix this issue we can assist you.

Apart from the database, you will also need to copy the /img/p images (those images that you want) from your friend's website to your website; otherwise there will be no images display as they are not there (in your website)

I copied the images. Neither the products or the images appear on the site and my existing images have disappeared.

Understand that you have another post on Watermark problem. Did you try regeneration of the thumbnails successfully? If not disable your watermark module and try again to see if you can get back all the images. Likelyhood the problem is caused by your watermark.

I had given up on this but I still need to do it. I do not have the watermark enabled, but it is enabled on the site from which I am copying,
I am really new to this and it would help if someone could set down the steps I need to take to do this. If necessary I will give free advertising and free links to anyone who can help.

It seems like you have more than one problem that you are asking for help about.
Is it still the database and missing pictures you have problems with, or is it the watermarks?

Wonder if you managed to find a solution for this. I am in the process and too, have problem. i tryed copy whole database and upload .sql file but it seems it did few things but not the products, just categories ..

I never got it right. I gave up in the end, but would still like to do this.
I think that you need to do imports for the categories and then the products and so on from the file you have created in MySQL admin
