Should I update? Shipping/Paypal Problem

I'm using 0.8 or 0.9 and I never updated because I have a very integrated website and I messed around with the database and I'm afraid I'll lose all my customer data if I update.

I am having problems with paypal however, the shipping address the customer inputs does not convert over to paypal - resulting in many errors when I use Paypal shipping (the cheapest and fastest label creator for me) Basically what happens is many customers are getting their orders at their billing address instead of shipping, unless I check every order by hand.

So my question is - has this been fixed in the newer versions? Should I update and risk messing up my database?

Is there a way to export/import order data?
