Add new combinations via database

Hi - we have a customer with a cart that has hundreds of items.  They need to add a new attribute/combinations for something they forgot to do the first go-around.  Is there a way to do that via the database so that they don't have to go into each item and add it that way?

For example, an item called Blue Helix Trophy - we already have combinations for size and topper.  Now they realized that they forgot to include an option for name-plate color.  So we need to go into each item and add that and regenerate combinations or we need to find a way to do this via the database directly.

Please let me know if you can think of a way to do this via the database or some add-on that's available to do this.

Yes, it is perfectly possible to do it just with SQL queries. It needs some time, not modules.
