Hi, I have a PS online store with 1.6 and I wanto to upgrade to 1.7.

Searching how to do it I read that with the module 1-click upgrade I could do it, so I backed up my site and DB and look for the version on the module, but 1-click upgrade doesn't show PS 1.7, only 1.6 so I went online and found out that it was because the module was for 1.6 and I had to install the 1.7 version of the module, with I did but after it was installed the modules functions of the store stopped working, so I had to go back to the 1.6 version of the module.

I downloaded and uploaded the prestashop 1.7 zip file and on expert mode I made 1-click upgrade take files but at the end of installation it says there's one file missing and that I should go back to the previous version (if I don't click on roll back, it automatically does it anyway). I also tried installing the files directly on the hosting but if is the prestashop zip file when I access the URL it downloads the files and if I decompress it it shows a 500 error on the site.

This is the site (I have the zip file now).

I'd really appreciate if someone can help me find a way to upgrade my store.

Just for my understanding, why do you want to update to PS 1.7. which is a version still in development, not stable and full of bugs. Don't do it. Wait for a stable PS 1.8. version. You will find over the forum several problems not still debugged about PS 1.7.

If you are developer and want to contribute for to debug PS 1.7. than go ahead. If you are only seller, than stay with PS 1.6.

Please read also here: https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/632996-solvedwhats-the-best-way-to-get-support-for-ps-17x/?do=findComment&comment=2628260

BTW: for to update PS 1.6. you use the 1-click module (version 3.0), and not the download of PS 1.7. The download of PS 1.7. package is just for to install a NEW Prestashop, but not for to upgrade.

Tried creating a new account on Cpanel, a subdomain on a different domain and it all didn't work.

Really don't know what else to do...:(

Please note that most if not all 1.6 modules are not compatible with 1.7 as well as many other things, You will no longer have many of the modules available in 1.6 free without purchasing new ones for example there is no USPS, UPS or FedEx modules,

I suggest you do an install of 1.7 in a sub-directory and get a feel for what is there and what is no longer there then inform the client about your findings.

As for the look there are many themes available for 1.6 that have a similar look.

Only for the layout to switch to a full of bugs version, this is not really a wise decision. Better you adapt the layout from PS 1.6. in this case....

If you are unable to create account on cPanel, so you need to ask for support of provider where shop is hosted. This is not really a Prestashop problem.

Hi thanks for the answer but I can`t  even install it on a subdomain to test it :(

I did created the new account on Cpanel, but it didn't work either, the install doesn't work, don't know why... I tried the 1-click upgrade, the install from 0 on the domain, creating a new cpanel account, and on a different domain creating a subdomain and install the 1.7 version, and nothing works.

Do you know of a theme that has a similar layout to 1.7? Since that is mostly what the client wants.

Let me give you some info on 1.7 and see if that helps.

Upload all files to something like /public_html/shop1.7.22

In Cpanel create database something like shop1722

Create user and password something like shop1722 or whatever

Apply user to Database with all privileges (If your host requires)

Then in browser navigate to http://yourdomain/shop1722/install

Is the above what you have been doing, Who is your host.

Yes, that's what I've been doing. The only different thing is that is not the directory (/domain/store/install) but a subdomain (store.domain.com/install)

I have godaddy.

I wrote: sub-folder and not subdomain. Subfolder is: /prestashop new. subdaomain is new.yourdomain.com. It's quite different. With cPanel add a simply new folder password protected and there you can develop what you want.

For to add a sub-domain, you will need to register it on DNS before. If the domain is routed to your webspace and not hosted directly on your webspace, so it of course will not work.

It worked, the only thing that I couldn't do (and godaddy didn't help either) was the php accelerator but the rest was OK, I already have the new version on the subfolder working.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH @tdr170 @selectshop.at for your help. I'm gonna follow your advice and let the client feel the new version front & back so he can decide if the upgrade is worth it.

:D
