How to create a test header for development within existing site

Hey,

I'm a php/html guy but I have never used Prestashop. I've been asked to make the header of a prestashop website more responsive.

I don't want to work on the live header of course, and I don't want to have to download the entire site and recreate it on my local machine.

 

Is there a simple way in prestashop to be able to create a test page which will include an alternative copy of the header which I can work on?

i.e. mysite.com/testpage would include header_v2 instead of the regular one.

 

I guess I'll end up having to mess around with controllers to do it, but I was wondering how you guys would go about it?
