rocky
You need to choose a host that supports PrestaShop's requirements listed on the download page (PHP 5 and MySQL 5), then go to the MySQL option in the Databases section of your cPanel to create a database and user and then link that user to the database, then upload PrestaShop using FTP to your server, then run the installer and enter the details of the database you created to install PrestaShop into the database. simpson7647
hi and thanks for your reply rocky. That sounds complicated :/What host do people recommend?thanks all
rocky
It sounds more complicated than it is, but creating a website is never easy. :-)Hostgator, Bluehost and Vidahost are hosts that are known to be compatible with PrestaShop. I know that Tomer uses BlueHost and he's happy with it.

snorkpants
You also need to decide whether you are accepting payments using credit cards in which case you may need an SSL certificate.Depending on you bank you bank with matters too as you may need an additional payment gateway written or purchase from various places. Also make sure that the host has a compatible server. Check the minimum specs for Prestashop.I do do hosting myself if you are interested but do not use forums to promote my business. Only if you are interested (no pressure) then pm me and I can give you more info.Regards,Graham BevinsPhoenix Web Development.

It's on http://www.digital-retail-scales.co.uk if you'd like to take a look. You can see it is fully functional on our server.I do understand if you want to go to a known host. What country are you in? I'm UK and have used Fasthosts in the past which weren't too bad. I have a dedicated server with UK2 which is also fairly good and they do individual hosting too. Just be wary with some of these hosts. For example, UK2 offer free SSL but when you actually go into it you have to have the domain registered through them and end up paying much more than it would be if you'd bought an SSL cert yourself. And, if you want to move hosts afterwards there is a fee to transfer the domain. Too many hidden fee imho.To be fair, most hosting company's PHP/MySQL host packages should be compatible with Prestashop. If you are looking for someone to set this up however, I would suggest that you talk to them about hosts they are familiar with as it will save a lot of hassle further down the line. I personally like to have SSH (secure shell) access which a lot of "cheaper" hosting companies do not provide.Sorry for the long reply.. hope it enlightens you a bit.~Graham. Eloras Web Solutions
Do you know how to log onto your cpanel and create a database? There are 2 parts to setting this site up.1. Upload and extract the files to your public_html folder. When you run the install file, the rest is simple.2. You need to setup a database and user and have the details ready so that you can enter it in the respective column during the installation above. It's actually very easy.
