Some image issues

Hi all

I have some questions about product images in prestashop.

First of it all i'd like to know why some product thumbnails are filled with white, while others are properly enlarged. I even noticed that some miniatures end up being "smaller" in the large versions(i mean excluding the white background filler). Is there a way to avoid it during a regenerate thumbnails? Does it depend on the orginal image proportions? Where can i find the original image to change it and re-regenerate the thumbnails if that's a solution?

I attached 2 products images to show the difference in thumbnail generation. Consider that as far as i remember the images on ebay were 500x500 pixels.

Also i got another problem. I have a module that sincronizes my products with ebay. The image links it uses for it are all non secure(http:) while my settings force all pages in ssl. While i know that i could ask the module devs for a fix, i am not sure that it is specifically a problem with their module, it could be some option in the backoffice or some base prestashop class i need to change a little.

Thanks in advance for the replies

Hi,

you have a certain sizes of images set in the configuration. So if the original image is too small, it is put inside that size, and the rest is filled with white background. That's why if you view the enlarged image, the effect may be as it got shrunk. Also if you have images with different proportions, the rest of the area gets filled with white background. By default you can't do much about it, only optimize the image settings so come closer to the actual images that you upload.

I recommend using the Perfect Thumbnails module to remove the white background from enlarged images and keep them in original proportions.

Still i can't see why, if you look at first 2 images, the second one is actually smaller than the first one if we exclude the white fill. Also the starting image for that one is was 500x500. I would expect at very least it to be stretched to 1000x1000 and then fill the remaining gap(200 pixel in one dimension) with white.

Outside of modules is there no way to prefer image stretch over white background?
