Installation hangs on "create database tables"

so, before you close this with some vague answer about browsers or host settings, this is a real problem.

1. there is nothing in /var/www/html/log

2. i tried with mySQL and mariadb

3. i tried with InnoDB, MyISAM and Aria

4. system is fully compatible when requirements are checked

5. php.ini has been tuned to prevent timeouts, filesize problems etc

6. again, i test db connection, it works. i tried putting there localhost, 127.0.0.1 and domain, but always hangs

 

so id say, something is wrong. i have been trying to get this installed for many hours now,its becoming alarming and want to fix this

 

this here is presta 1.6.1.17, on linux 14.04 vps

 

any suggestions welcome

hold the press, it just finished installing. maybe make a note somewhere that standard package can take like +10 minutes to install??
