Lukenzo
Hello. I imported categories by csv import option. I can see those categories in back office, they are marked as displayed, but I cant see them in front office category tree. All I can see is "HOME" category and my "test" category which I created in back office. Any ideas ?

Lukenzo
Hello. Yes, I tried it just now. I don't know if it supposed to happen, but after clearing cache my index page layout resetted to full width without columns. Categories are still gone. Lukenzo
Is there any way to have category list in 1.7 like in 1.6? With drop-down subcategories and etc. Or should I downgrade ?
Scully
You can't downgrade. At least there is no official way to do so. But you could post a link to your shop.
Lukenzo
The same thing happens with 1.6 version. My shop is currently in development. Any key points which I should check ?
Lukenzo
Could anyone explain me how that category tree works? I had few categories in it, then I clicked on link and now they are gone. No matter if im in index or category page..
Scully
If you have a similar category problem on v 1.7 and same happens on v 1.6.x. is it then more likley a user or handling issue? Try to create at least on category by hand, enter all fields. Check if it visible on the front office. If YES, there is not problem with displaying but rather handling the CSV import which sometimes is a little bit tricky.
Lukenzo
All visible categories must be assigned to "Home" category? How to hide that "Home" category from category tree/navigation tree?
Lukenzo
Ok, somehow categories are now visible.. how about that "home" category? How to hide it ? why all categories must be assigned to it?
Scully
One category must be the top level. It is called home. This is a very simple category tree: Home Chocolate Dark Chocolate White Chocolate Which means, a category is assigned to home or another higher level category. Lukenzo
Hmm.. Strange way how prestashop works.. What if I want to hide that "Home" ?
Scully
You can hide everything. However I don't think you have understood the principle of hierarchical categories.
selectshop.at
Hmm.. Strange way how prestashop works.. What if I want to hide that "Home" ? If you hide master category, which is home, the sub-categories won't be shown. This is not sttrange behavior, but simple architecture tree. Lukenzo
Well, I worked more about a year with other cms and it didn't require to show root category. I understand the priciple of tree architecture, but still
selectshop.at
Prestashop is not a CMS. Prestashop is an e-commerce solution/shopping cart. CMS = Content Management System, which is not the same as an shopping cart. And a tree is composed by a trunk, branches and leaves. If you cap branches you will loose the leaves, If you cap the trunk, than you will loose branches and leaves. The architecture is like Scully mapped before. Lukenzo
Ok, sorry, I worked not with cms, but with e-shop solution. That's not the point.
presta.show
Using this importer module you could decide to add or not products to Home category, or just to default and parent or all categories in category tree without or with home category: https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/539577-module-smart-csv-xml-prestashop-import-manager
