product images are gone

Hi!

 

I recently added a new template to my wesite and the product images stopped showing. So I changed the template back to the default one but the images are still not showing, I looked at the paths, I changed the permissions, I tried regenerating thumbnails but it doesnt regenerate instead the page shows error. so I cannot regenerate thumbnails. i tried downgrading the prestashop version to the previous backup n still nothing. I do not know what to do. even when i upload new product images they do not show, while uploading it gives error but in the front end they r there when you hover over the image but you cannot see them in the thickbox or the thumbnails. 

 

any idea what to do?
