Scully
Search the forum and you will find plenty of threads discussing pros and cons. By the way, there is a search function. Most of the experts advise to stay on 1.6. - so do I.

Scully
I wouln't update at this time. We made a serios evaluation two months ago and decided to remain on 1.6.1.xx. There are too many problems with 1.7. which can seriousely compromise functionality. And yes: Support might end, but I have doubts this will end next year already. I don't know any single dealer running on 1.7. at the moment. And they will not all be able to upgrade in time. Since we are able to maintain code, the end-of-support would also not be a show stopper in our company.
