the bean
I'm posting this for anyone who suddenly thinks they have gone crazy trying to figure how to implement what should be a fairly simple process... google analytics. I have two installs for different clients, versions: 1.6.1.6 1.6.1.9 Be very careful, the method for analytics is completely different, even though that 'tiny little number' changed from a 6 to a 9 at the end of your version. 1.6.1.6 - It's easy! Register with G analytics, activate the module v2.3.4: Analytics and Stats Google Analytics v2.3.4 Click 'configure' and add your tracking ID. Easy as pie. 1.6.1.9 - Impossible for most of us! Register with G analytics, look for the Google module... Hmn, wait a minute, it's not there! The only thing that shows when you search for 'Google Analytics' in modules is: Administration Google Analytics API v1.2.1 So you think, oh well, they must have updated it.... wrong! Active this module and you will not see anything you recognise. this is what you get: Please be aware the Google Analytics API module will only work if you either: have installed and configured the “Google Analytics” module. or have already embedded the Google Analytics script into your shop. then this: Which Google Analytics API version do you want to use? v1.3: easy to configure but deprecated and less secure v3.0 with OAuth 2.0: most powerful and up-to-date version I selected the second obviously because I want my site to be secure. Makes sense eh? then you get this: Google Analytics API v3.0 Client ID: Client Secret: Profile: Now at this point, I'm desperately looking in G analytics for this info.... don't bother it's not there! What you have to do is register with https://console.developers.google.com/apis/library? Where, what, I hear you cry! Well, I did it and then went through a whole process of trying to create the data required to make the module happy and got completely lost and gave up. The API thing is purely for boffin developers, not your everyday folk. So, I have no analytics on my Prestashop site version 1.6.1.9 ... great! If there is any kind soul out there who would like to help, I will gladly buy you a number of beers... well virtual ones anyhow Edited July 3, 2017 by the bean (see edit history)
