SQL replication - distributing and synchronising data between multiple databasesAccording to the changelog of PrestaShop v1.4 alpha 1, it includes SQL replication only. rocky
I'm not sure. I haven't actually tried PrestaShop v1.4 alpha 1 yet. I'll install it when I have time and try to find this "SQL replication".

misty
Does it mean that PrestaShop is one step before Multi-shop capability? No, this is only to speed up Prestashop, to do so it split queries :- Writes are done on the Master Database- Instant Reads (carts, orders...) are done on the Master Database- Normal Reads (catalog, products...) are done on the Slave Database(s). You can have many slaves if you want.
rocky
I've installed PrestaShop v1.4 alpha 1, but I cannot see anything different. The installer only let me specify one database as usual and I can't see any option under Preferences > Database to specify a master and slave database. I guess they've only done the back end code so far.
Claudio10
And when Prestashop will have differents prices per product? to convert it a real btob! Not with discount per group!Claudio
Sphero
Humm, i was hopping for 1.4 Multi-shop capability. It is really what is missing to PrestaShop. Opencart have it but Opencart is not very good for clothing shop and Magento have it too but you have to paid for it. PrestaShop have a lot of good points but it is definitely missing the Multi-shop capability.
Sphero
Correction Magento has it and you don't have to paid for it.
rocky
I found the SQL replication code in PrestaShop v1.4 alpha 1. You specify all the database details in the $_servers variable in classes/Db.php. The first value is the master database and the following databases are the slave databases. Whenever a call to the Db::getInstance() is made, it returns the master database or randomly chooses one of the slave databases, depending on the parameter.

MrBaseball34
There is new functionnality, we developp new every day !Better stabilityAnd new partners While I applaud your efforts, especially in obtaining funding, your product is hampered in everyone's eyes by the antiquated upgrade process and the utter lack of a templating engine and the non-existent documentation. As I've pointed out before, you should take a look at how PHPBB uses the AutoMOD utility to handle upgrades and module installations as well as Drupal's templating engine. These things are what make people STAY with your product, lack of them make people leave your product. How people view your product is gauged by the features and how well they are usable to them. Having to modify so much just to upgrade is too much for many users. Please check out how CodeIgniter handles variables throughout their application. This would be a great time to do away with the outdated Smarty variables. On another note...Your product is also perceived as not being very professional because not many PrestaTeam member post here. Support for your product, even being an open source product like yours, is paramount to users, especially since many of your users are not experienced developers.PrestaTeam members posting real SOLUTIONS here in this forum would be of great value, not only to the new users but also user like me that have been developing for years but don't know PS inside-out like you fellas do. When your team posts, they also show an ownership in the product, not posting reflects a lack of ownership in the product and drives people away. Peer support can only go so far, sometimes it takes real in-depth knowledge about the product to come up with a solution and that means you folks.Just my 2 cents worth... Torbz
Ditto to what he said....Though as a fellow developer, I know the constraints on time to filter through 10's if not 100's of requests for help, which ca be complex in depth at times. It's really a permanent job to handle servicing and maybe the PS team simply can't contribute the man-power?But, yes, I agree with you whole-heartedly. I'm not a muppet and yet the upgrade from 1.2.5 to the latest version just looks like way to much hassle and there's also no upgrade guide that I've yet found to minimise the problems - not to mention that 3 months down the line, the next darn version will be out!! MrBaseball34
- Decreased the quantity of SQL queries on the Front-Office and many improvements on the solution performance Does this mean parametized queries? That would also help out in the SPEED of the system. There was no mention about the possibility of adding District of Columbia to the US States was there? Every time I try to add it, my states always display incorrectly.

mytheory.
Does anybody have a estimate (even if its a very rough estimate) as to when the final (stable) 1.4 is expected to be released? Within a year? or more/less?Thanks!
rocky
Only the PrestaShop team could know that, and they don't provide release dates. They are still adding new features, so I think it will be a while yet. I'll keep adding the new features to the list above as they are added. Once they finish adding features and focus on bug fixes only, I think it will be closer to release.
mytheory.
ok. thanks rocky!I started using PS since version 1.2.5 and unfortuately waiting until the next release (1.4) to upgrade... so just to ball park it, since the stable release of 1.2.5 to the stable release of 1.3.1 took roughly how long? 1.5 to 2 years?PS. I also one up for an easier upgrade process/feature. The only thing holding us back from upgrading to 1.3.2... just seems too much work for a little gain. I mean our shop works fine as is, so why fix it. But some of those new features for the next release seem worthwhile! Thanks!
rocky
I understand. I'm planning to redesign my theme, but I'm waiting for v1.4 to be released, since the theme has been completely rewritten to enable the price comparison, one-page checkout and "Combine, Compress Cache" features.PrestaShop v1.2.5 was released on 1 February 2010 and PrestaShop v1.3 was released on 25 May 2010, so it was about 4 months between them. Assuming it will also take about four months from the current release to the next final release, that means v1.4 would be released near the end of January. Of course, that's for the final version. Hopefully, we'll get a beta or RC before Christmas.
vasekcekal
PrestaShop v1.2.5 was released on 1 February 2010 and PrestaShop v1.3 was released on 25 May 2010, so it was about 4 months between them. Hopefully, we'll get a beta or RC before Christmas. I think it is great message. I thought - Expect a new version next of the 1 year.Because we want modernize our old and bad shop on Prestashop. I have made my own design and give some modules, but not all products inside yet. I don't know If I can continue to giving products inside and later will make an update or if I have to wait for new 1.4 stable version. Please, what do you think? What about update from 1.3.2.5 to 1.4? Will it be easy? Or not? What will be compatibility with 1.3.2.5? Because I have my own design and it was for me work for long hours. Also what about modules from 1.3.2.5? Will we can use it in 1.4?I Very miss bulk upload images to the product. There is some modul but it doesn't work. Do you think there will be this function in 1.4?Thank you very much for reply.Sorry, my english is really bad.
rocky
Upgrading the database is easy, but upgrading your theme and modules will not be easy (unless you are using the default PrestaShop theme and no third-party modules). The structure of the PrestaShop theme has completely changed in order to enable the "Combine, Compress, Cache" option.

krapivnik-sm
I deeply apologize for bumping an old thread.Apart from the slight changes in the back-office design, are there any new "WOW!" features that are in 1.4 that are not in 1.3?I'm currently trying to fix the template that was made for 1.3 and I have to say that it's a nightmare. I've already spend hours and hours of debugging and frustration, so I'm wondering if I should just stop here and tell my client to use 1.3?Thanks
rocky
I would consider the new "One-page checkout", "Guest checkout" and "CCC" features as "WOW" features in PrestaShop v1.4, but it depends on what the requirements are for your website. If you describe what you are wanting for your website, it would be easier to decide which version to use.
