Use Prestashop for a Takeaway delivery website ??

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

I am new to Prestashop and even if I have installed the new version to have a look at it and try it, I am still not sure about its power...

I would like to know if Prestashop could be used to create, not a "classic" online shop, but a Food and Takeaway delivery shop...

This means that customers would choose their area, and depending on their area they will have a selection of restaurants to choose from, and then, in each restaurant they have a list of the dishes and drinks and can add as many as they want to their basket before proceeding to check out.

I can see how:
Restaurants = Categories

and

Dishes = Products

And I believe that they is a was to list down the products with a "Add to Basket" button without having a page for each, but I am wondering about the AREA.

Do I have to create the different AREAS as main Categories and then the RESTAURANTS as sub-categories ?

Or is there an other way ?

Thanks in advance for your help...

Johanna

That is a pretty cool idea, I don't see why it can't be setup in that manner.
The problem lies in the fact that you only have one email address to send orders to.
How are you going to forward orders to the various restaurants?

This could be done without your interaction with just a little back-end programming.
The orders would be forwarded directly to the restaurant that is to fill the order.

Thanks for your answer !

In fact, I think that the Owner of the site is dispatching the orders itself, but I have to double check this, of course.
They take order on the phone as well, and I suppose the delivery is grouped if the customer is ordering from more than one restaurant. Once again, I'll double check.

My worries are more related to the AREA.

If customer X is from Area 3, he'll have access to only the Restaurants from Area 3. We don't want him to order from the restaurants that are only available in Area 1 for example....

So I would need to request the Postal Code on the first page, and then display only the restaurant available in that Area.

In Prestashop, I could of course add the Sub-Categories "Restaurants" in the 10-12 area, but that would be fastidious, especially when Restaurant have subcategories themselves.

You can attribute a product to different categories but not a categorie to several Parent categories... That's a pity.

Do you see my problem ?

I don't want to have

CODE 1
- REST 1
-- STARTER
-- MAIN
- REST 2
- REST 3
- REST 4
...
- REST 12

CODE 2
- REST 1
-- STARTER
-- MAIN
- REST 2
- REST 3
- REST 4
...
- REST 12

etc

but

REST1 --> Available in CODE 1, CODE 2, CODE 3, CODE 4 ...
-- STARTER
-- MAIN

REST2 --> Available in CODE 1, CODE 2, CODE 3, CODE 4 ...
-- BURGERS
-- SALADS

This type of sites have been done before, but I think they are hand-coded, or they don't have any area issues...

Thanks again.

I'm not *that* familiar with the ins-and-outs of PS so I can't comment on this more. I'd love to see it work and would have to take a lot more time researching the DB structure as well as how the system works with categories/sub categories to be able to offer more advice.

I'd love to see your final solution, though. Maybe someone else with a lot more experience with PS will help out.

Hi,

I’ve made an addon which make it.

This module is linked to a transporter and limit deliveries for some post codes.
It also include a planning on transporter selection that let the customer select a time slot for delivery. The reservation planning can be configured to enable only the current day (for fast-food or other meal delivery)

take a look at myowndeliveries.labulle.net for further explainations

Hi Sjohanna and everyone else!!

I have the same situation now myself, did you find a solution for your problem? It was a few months ago now, hopefully so! I have the same issue, and getting the job relies on me figuring out this issue: one shop online, currently 4 restaurants in madrid, how do i direct the order to the correct shop, through the post / zip code. And i guess the payment to the shop too.

Any help here would be great

Regards

Patrick
