How to shorten description text and remove the "view" button

I have some questions: how can i reduce my product description text. like here: http://www.prestashopic.com/demo/shop1/category.php?id_category=16; i want to show a small part of him.
Then how cand i remove my "view" button?

you need to edit your product-list.tpl file in your theme directory

look for

{$product.description_short|strip_tags:'UTF-8'|truncate:360:'...'}

change truncate:360 to a smaller number


to remove the view button

in the same file

delete this line

{l s='View'}

I dont know if the above solution is outdated, but it isn't working for me, anyone out there able to help me get ridd of the view button?
