HTTP 500

I am a beginner at this. But the installation went well but then i go to frontend or backend I get this messege.
HTTP 500.
Any one that now?
I have been looking for the php.ini file but i cant find it.

You can see this file via FTP, in the main directory.
What is wrong : a bad command in this file can give error 500.

Try to rename this file from .htaccess to htaccess.txt (to desactivate without loosing it).
And try again.

You need this file, to use urlrewriting.
