This is caused by wrong file permissions (most likely), make sure all your files and folders are NOT set to 777, the maximum it should be set to is 755

777 is extremely unsecured, and most hosts now block php files that are set to 777 from running, and spit error 500.

Also note that is the modules folder is set to 777 and the files inside are set to 755, you will still get that error.

Thanks Presto

I understood very well what you said about 777 permission. My problem is that which file or/and folder will have this permission?

i have followed strictly the installation's instructions that:
all folders: config, upload, download, tools, smarty, and compile must have 777 permission and these folders below:
imag, mails, modules, translation and themes/prestashop/lang must have 777 permission and their sub-folders.
that is what i have done nothing else.

Please feel free to help me about this, because for now i have packed my shop for paiement errors (bankwire, cheque and Paypal)

If someone can help it will be most apprieciate

Cheers for all

what a funny thing! 777 in French is actually 755 in English
i have spent my whole day just because of this.

Now i have set my module directory to 755 and its working fine .

Tnank you very much :) "tomerg3"

777 in French is actually 755 in English ;)

I have tried to get the prestashop team to at least add a note about it, but to no avail...

Nothing should be set to 777, ever! Change every 777 to 755.

Hi guys..

I have the same problem with my website and most of the times crashing and display 500 Internal Server Error....
when I reload the page then work again but it is really wearied and unacceptable that website work like that!!!

I have contact with developer team and they told me that the prestashop is working find (Version 4) and the problem is not client-side and then I have called to Go Daddy (host provider) and they check my website and there is no error in Log system in CP!!!!

I would really appreciate it if anybody let me know that the problem has anything to do with file permission and change it to 755 in english.
moreover, would you let me know how and where I have to change it!!!!

Thank you

Hello,

First of set all to 755 or 775.

because some scripts need other scripts it's posible that 644 can cause problems.

There is onother problem if you had onother website and move all the files in a folder that you don't need ant forget the .htacces there whith the 301 redirections or bad configuring with conflicts with prestashop.

www.ecart-shop.com

www.ecart-boutique.fr

www.ecart-tienda.es

Is there an easy way to set all to 755 without clicking on every file and folder individually?
