changing background color of blocks

Good morning PrestaShop forum!

 

I'm new in the PrestaShop scene and not quite well versed on web page design...

 

I'm setting my company's PrestaShop e-store and there are a few adjustments we would like to do:

 

Change the background color of the block that holds the shopping cart to black. 

 

On the top horizontal menu I would like to show white type,

eliminate the lines that separate each category button,

get rid of the header links below the top menu block (contact/sitemap) and

specify a different color for the hover highlight and.

 

I am using the Live Editor but the red options are not close enough to our corporate red to sneak by, we would actually need to specify "crimson". I was able to change it the search icon...

 

I have access to the code file through FTP client but I would like to make these changes using the CSS editor module I just downloaded. Is it possible to do it this way or do I need to bite the bullet and make the changes directly on the code?
