Zones and Shipping

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I think I already have the answer to my question, but the potential is it's a shed load of configuring and was looking to see if there is a better/quicker way ...

So, I have created 4 zones - UK, Europe, World Zone 1 and World Zone 2 - these are according to Royal Mail postage zones.   So, for UK I have free shipping and all other zones I have configured the shipping cost's according to the cost to me from Royal Mail.   All good and simple so far.

The issue comes now when I am looking to add the individual countries to the shipping zones I have created.   I understand I can go through each individual country and apply the relevant zone to a country which, presumably, will then mean if a person orders and selects there country of delivery the applicable zone will be applied and postage calculated accordingly.   However, isn't it possible to select the individual countries to apply to the zones, instead of having to go through each individual country and apply the zone.

In other words, what I presume I have to do at the moment is ...

Country ==> Apply Zone

Whereas, a quicker more convenient way would surely be ...

Zone == > Apply Countries

Hope this all makes sense :)
Thanks

Marko

Hi

You are correct in that it is a manual and intensive way to do it and unfortunately unless you are a wizz in mysql thats how you have to do it.

However, you can make the job a bit easier if you use the filter in Countries to group by current zone which should be reasonably close to the zones you want. You still have to edit the country to change the zone but at least its better and quicker than doing them one by one in alphabetical order.

Hi Dave, thanks for the reply :)

Actually, it wasn't really quite as bad as I had anticipated, I was under the impression, initially, that I would have to go into each individual country and edit and update each one that way but as it turns out I was able to just select the one's I wanted to update from the main listing and do it that way.

From my explanation above and using the examples of shipping zones I gave here's how I updated the countries ...

As far as Royal Mail are concerned, they separate their shipping zones into four zones - UK, Europe, Zone 1 and Zone 2.   They give all the countries under their "Europe" zone and "Zone 2" and then say everything else is "Zone 1" so what I did was in the Country list I selected all and changed the zone to "Zone 2".   Then I went through the list and selected all the countries they listed as "Zone 1", selected them all and changed their zone to "Zone 1".   Finally, did the same for all the countries they list under "Europe".   UK zone is obviously just "UK" which means I now have all applicable countries in Europe and Zone 2 selected and everything else (because I marked everything as Zone 1 initially) is Zone 1 !!

Long winded explanation, I know, but just wanted to share it in case anyone else faced a similar dilemma - I just didn't realise I could select the individual countries and batch assign them to zones :)

Cheers

Mark
