My Host has suspended my site

Recommended Posts

Earlier on this evening I was working on my site. I tried to watermark my images and rebuild the thumbnails.

The server kept timing out so I redone them 3 times.

After the third time, the site went completely offline and I received a suspension notice for 'misuse' of a PHP Script.

As I have a paid hosting plan, I'm obviously pretty annoyed about it.

Does the Image Regeneration create such a Server workload?

Needless-to-say I will be changing my host as soon as possible.

Just thought I post this as a heads-up for others.
Has anyone else experienced this in the past?

That seriously sucks.

I agree with dumping them, if a confrontational phone call doesn't get you an apology and reimbursed for lost sales. Unfortunately, poorly regulated as they are, hosting companies can get away with all kinds of garbage.

Regenerating the images is an intensive process, however, most modern hosts will just limit the CPU / Memory / Time you can use a php script, and not suspend you account.

I use Bluehost for all my sites and of my clients, they offer excellent 24/7 live support (phone and chat), unlimited bandwidth / storage / addon domains, and they also give out $50 for google ads and MSN (for US customers).

I'm an affiliate, so if you decide to go with them, please use this link http://www.bluehost.com/track/tomer

EDIT: I almost forgot, I've seen other people report the same issue, although probably 2-4 in the last year I've been on the forum

Hi everybody,

This is usually a server timeout issue. Hosting providers tend to cut off the process the instant it reaches that timeout limit, no matter how close it is to completing the script. In fact, I've even run some tests on stores with 40 second timeout values that would've completed the script in 42 seconds if it weren't for that limitation from the host.

In this situation, the best thing to do is to call your hosting provider and ask them to increase that value for you, even if it is only temporary to allow you to finish regenerating the thumbnails. And if they're not willing to do this for you, I would personally recommend giving HostGator a try.

I hope this helps.

-Mike
