PS 1.7: Extending Hashing functionality

I am not yet so familiar with the PS code and need your advise.

 

My scenario:

 

I have a shop migration that requires to add a further hash method in Hashing.php (which is in the src folder) to allow a validation of salted, imported pwds (the existing hash methods do not help here).

The method modifier for initHashMethods does not allow me to extend the functionality by a child class e.g. via a module (I guess it is private for security reasons).

Do you have an ideas of how to handle such a code change? Of course I can just change the class and upload it to the src folder but with the next PS update it might be overwritten.
