Free UK shipping help

Recommended Posts

Hello

Thanks for taking time to read this.

I am trying to set free shipping to UK mainland, I have followed the instructions on other topics on this forum however still unable to resolve this, basically I want to offer free uk mainland and shipping, Other areas we want to deliver to is Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Jersey Guernsey.

I keep getting this error

"There is no carrier available that will deliver to this address”

I have edited out the instruction given to another memeber on this forum who was having a similar problem, just so I can test UK mainland only, before I add a charge for other areas

"I suggest that you go to Shipping > Zones and create a UK zone and an International zone. Then go to Shipping > Carriers and create a Domestic carrier assigned to the UK zone If you are using billing according to price, then go to Shipping > Price ranges, create a price range of £0 – £10000000 for each of the carriers, or basically any high amount that you don’t expect anyone to order over. If you are using billing according weight, then go to Shipping > Weight ranges and create a weight range of 0kg – 1000000kg for each carrier. Once you’ve done this, you can go to the Shipping tab, select the Domestic carrier in the dropdown box at the bottom, leave the shipping cost as £0, then click Save, Once you’ve done that, whenever a customer checks out with a UK address, they will be charged no shipping"

Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.

Kind Regards

You're not on your own with this UK shipping quandry.

I got around it by creating States within the UK, so a state for UK mainland, Scottish Highlands, IOW, IOM, N. Ireland, Channel Islands etc.

You can then assign a carrier to that state with the appropriate pricing.

Whilst this works, it is not an elegant solution as it caused issues with other checkout modules that looked for states.

Because you have to supply an ISO code for the state, if it isn't recognised as a 'proper' (in other words US) state, the software stops with an error message about the state.
I got around this by using ISO codes for US states, (luckily we don't ship to the US), but the state code is added to the customers UK address which is not neat, but until I see an alternative solution we are stuck with it.

What is required is a 'Shipping by postcode' module, if someone would write one, they would definitely sell as I have seen many people stuck on UK shipping because of the different charges applied within the UK.

Hello There

Thanks for your kind reply,

I see what you have done I think I have no choice but to follow your advice as this is the only workaround at the moment. Hopefully a more robust solution will be created in the future,

If its ok I will keep in touch once I have set this up to see if it works.

Kind Regards
