Configuring shipping costs

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I 'm going to set shipping costs.

The problem is that the documentation is poor:

http://www.prestashop.com/wiki/Shipping/

too simple, does not cover real cases.

----------

I can not understand how to solve my problem:

I havo to set shipping costs only to EU countries.

The cost is similar for "groups of countries", for example:

"Germany, France" = 15 euros

"Czech Republic / Poland / Slovakia" = 18 euros

"Italy" is even differentiated between local regions delivery on the peninsula and islands

etc etc..

------------

I've got just a pony express, but that gives me two options: 1) air shipment or 2) by land.

option 1) and 2) have different weight ranges

for example

-air shipment: 0.1 => 0.5 kg

- land shipment 0.1 => 2 kg

etc

--------

Now, how can I set it?

I thought of treating shipping by air and shipping by land as two different pony express.. and to each one I'll assign two different weight ranges.

Do I have to create a zone for each "groups" ? I mean a zone for "France-Germany" , another zone for "Czech Republic / Poland / Slovakia" since they have different shipping costs?

I think it's a little misleading.. because in that case I dont understand the usefulness of the menu "countries" .. Why can't I use it to differentiate the shipping costs in europan country, for example?

Does anyone have some advice for me?
many thanks
bye

Hi,

Here how it should done:

STEP I: create the zones ( Admin => Shipping => Zones )

1. On the Zones Page click Add new link.

2.In the Zones Page Give a name for that Zone (e.g. Germany, France)

Tip: If it is up to me, I would name the zones like: Zone 1; and keep a MS word document for the zones I have and the countries within that zone.
Something like:

============================================

| Zone Name | Countries | Ship. Cost By Air | Ship Cost By Land |

============================================

By using this way, I can easily add new countries or regions for each zone and I can keep a track of all the countries I have!

3. Mark the Zone Status Available.

4. Save the Zone.

do this step for all the zones you have

============================================

STEP II: Go to Admin => Shipping => Countries

1. From there select the country you want to add it to your zones (e.g. you want to add Germany to Zone 1). Search for Germany, and then click it.

[Now you should see the Country information of Germany.]

2. From the Zone Drop-Down list, select your zone. in this example Zone 1.

3. Change other setting if there is any need for that.

4. Click Save.

do this step for all the countries you wanna add to your zones
If for any reasons, the country you want to ship to is not in the list, you can create it by clicking the Add New link

============================================

STEP III: Go to Admin => Shipping => Carriers

1. Click Add new link
2. Add the carrier name in the Company Field. (e.g. Pony Express - Land Shipping)
3. Make sure to check the zones you want this carriers delivers to (e.g Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3, and etc)
4. Make sure the Status is Available.
5. on the Module Field; Click the X radio button.
6. You might make changes for the other setting as well and if needed.
7. Click Save button.

In your case, you have to add another carrier (Pony Express - Air Shipping)

============================================

STEP IV: Go to Admin => Shipping => Weight Ranges

1. Click Add New.
2. Choose the Carrier from the Drop-Down List (e.g. Pony Express - Land Shipping)
3. Now, Set the weight range for the land shipping (e.g. From 1.0 Kg To 2. Kg)
4. Save

[Do this step till you meet all your needs (e.g. Pony Express - Air Shipping From 0.1 Kg To 0.5 Kg)]

============================================

STEP V: Go to Admin => Shipping => Price Ranges

1. Click Add New.
2. Choose the Carrier from the Drop-Down List (e.g. Pony Express - Land Shipping)
3. Now, Set the price range for the purchased products (e.g. From $0.01 To $1000)
4. Save

[Do this step till you meet all your needs (e.g. Pony Express - Air Shipping From $1000 To $99999)]

============================================

STEP VI: Go to Admin => Shipping
[Do NOT click any of the sub-tabs, just click the Shipping Tab]

1. In the Handling section & the Billing section, make the necessary changes.
2. In the Fees section:
a. Choose your carrier from the drop-down list (e.g. Pony Express - Land Shipping)
b. You should see now the the zones you've created in the box.
c. set the price for each zone as you wish.
d. Click Save.

and you are ready to go :)

This is what I know and I hope that helps you.

Good luck... :coolsmile:

A few additional observations:

If your carrier has different rates according to regions, such as UK carriers generally have different rates for Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland, the create additional countries and zones to accommodate them.
I needed 6 UK countries for my carrier (DPD):
UK - Mainland
UK - Scottish Postcodes AB31, AB33-38, AB44-56 & IV30-32
UK - Scottish Postcodes FK17-99 G83 IV21-28 + 33-56 + 63 HS
UK - Scottish Postcodes KA27-28 KW1-17 PA20-49 PA60-78
UK - Scottish Postcodes PH18-26 PH30-44 PH49-50 ZE1-3
UK - N Ireland, Channel Isles, Isle of man, Scilly Isles

And 4 zones just for the UK:
UK - Mainland
UK - Mainland 48 hour (for AB/IV30-32, where next day delivery wasn't available)
UK - Scottish Highlands & Islands
UK - N Ireland, Channel Isles, Isle of man, Scilly Isles

For many European countries I had to create 2 countries - one for mainland and one for offshore islands, as DPD have a road service to most of the European mainland, but offshore islands are often covered by much more expensive air freight service.
