how many sub folders do i set permissions for

This my sound like a really silly question but on installing where it says -
" make sure the following folders have ‘write’ permissions and apply these permissions recursively (to their subfolders): /img, /mails, /modules, /themes/prestashop/lang, /translations"
does this mean update the permissions for each folder it's next sub folders or
update the permissions for each folder it's next sub folders and their sub folders and their sub folders and so on.

It is not a silly question. The permission on files and folder is confusing, and the way it has been translated into english by the french team is not so clear.

You could use my script to do it IF you have shell access to your host. Or you could send them the script.

If not then you need to do it manually with your FTP client

During the install you need to set permissions on the folder PLUS files for the config dirs
And the other folder need ONLY permissions on the FOLDERS and SUBFOLDERs. NOT the files.

BUT that might not be true for your hostings service. My provider is very strict and all my translations files need to have 777 permissions otherwise i cannot translate files from the BO.
