Authentication Failed

I am getting this when I try to login the front end as a customer I created to test the site.  The user shows in customers on the back end but when I try to log in as that customer I can't authenticate. When I try to retrieve a password I get: There is no account registered for this email address.  Even when I put my admin email address in.

 

I am using version 1.6.1.8 with default bootstrap theme.

 

PHP version is 5.4 with a php.ini file.  Memory is set to 512MB. ssl is installed and enabled.

 

With all that doesn't seem to work I am afraid to use this as a production store.

Well here's an update.  I recreated the same account AFTER installing the ssl certificate and all went as expected.  The account was created and I was able to go through checkout.  So for anyone having the same issue, apparently any account added prior to installing an ssl certificate may not work.
