Sales not validating

We have never had any of our sales show as validated in the back office and the stats on the dashboard have therefore never shown any graphs etc. Today we realised that when a customer collects a product from us instead of opting for it to be delivered, the sale shows as validated when we mark it as 'collected' in our statuses. Our paypal sales also show once we select 'authorization accepted from paypal.' However, no other sales from our customers are being validated. We have, of course, selected 'consider the associated order as validated' from the checklist in 'order confirmation' and 'order dispatched' but this isn't making any difference.

 

Any thoughts?
