Paypal Automatic Authorisation not working

We've recently installed and started using the Prestashop Official Europe Paypal module. I have checked the 'Direct Sales' choice under Payment Type in the module. I thought that this would ensure the payment would be automatically processed in the back office 'orders' area meaning that the invoice would be generated, the stock would decrease and the payment section would show that paypal had been used and authorised. However, we are having to manually authorise every sale by selecting the 'authorization accepted from paypal' option in the status box.

 

Unusually, the module is also automatically confirming payment and dispatch. Emails are sent to the customer as soon as the sale is completed, 'order dispatched' first followed just a few seconds later by 'order confirmation.' It doesn't matter what the 'authoization accepted from paypal' status is set to, even if all the boxes are unchecked, the emails still send!
