tif
Hi,I am having some problems with the tax settings. I have followed the WIKI for the tax setting in Canada, in Quebec. But it doesn't calculate properly at the cart level. Also, i don't know why but at the product level, i have both prices (tax incl and tax exc) shown, but neither is right. How can the tax inc be lower than the tax excl? and the price that are tax excl are not the one that i have put on the product information. Is this a bug?I have the version 5. Will installing version 6 help the situation? Please help
rocky
I know that there are tax issues that have been fixed in v1.3, so upgrading may help. I've also heard that the conversion rate of your currencies can also mess up taxes. Go to Payment > Currencies and make sure that your default currency has a conversion rate of 1. tif
Hi, Thank you for the message. I checked the currency and the default Canadian Dollar is set at 1. So It's not the currency.I will try to update the Prestashop version and see if this helps. Thank you!
tif
Hi, I was told that it's not safe to install the 1.3 version yet, since it's for testing purpose. And since my store is already up and running that i'm better using the stable version of 1.2. Is this true? how "unstable" is the v 1.3? I do really want to solve this tax issue. rocky
PrestaShop v1.3 RC7 should be pretty stable, but you should wait for PrestaShop v1.3 final before upgrading. It will be released very soon. By waiting instead of upgrading now, you don't have to worry about upgrading again once v1.3 final is released.
tif
Thank you for the reply... I couldn't wait and i installed the new version. BUT it still does not correct the tax issue. My products prices are so weird i don't know where it's coming from. When I setup the prices in product catalog, the pre-tax retail price and the final retail price is correct. When I look at the price on the product catalog, under "product in this category", the base price is correct, but there is a final price beside this that is not correct. I don't know where does this final price come from. Then when i go to my store live, all the prices are tax included. I don't know why, and where can i disable that? I want the prices to be tax excluded. And at the cart, the taxes are still not calculated properly... AGRRRR What is going on???Please help!!!! rocky
I'm not sure whether it is a bug or whether you just haven't configured PrestaShop properly. How do you have your tax set up? In PrestaShop v1.3, you need to go to Customers > Groups and edit each customer group to set the prices as "tax excluded". If you are sure you have configured PrestaShop properly, you can report this issue on the bug tracker.
tif
Yes, for my customer groups (i only have one setup), i did set the prices as tax excluded... so where is this bug tracker thing? sorry first time on the forum.

epicureanfoods.com
Hello Does anybody know if this got resolved? I think there is a design issue that I'm hoping has been fixed by now. In our case(and I know I've seen other people on the forum complain about a similar issue), we sell food products. Some may be taxable (like chocolate) while others are not (like pasta). We need somehow to be able to say that, if a product is taxable, before charging the tax on it, look at what province it is being sold in. If it is taxable, the rate of tax charged will depend on what province it is being sold in (for example chocolate in Ontario would be taxed at 13%, in Nova Scotia it would be 15% and in Alberta it would only be taxed at 5%).In other words, we can't just assign a tax rate to a product because the amount that it is taxed will depend on where it is sold. We do, however, need to indicate whether a product is taxable or not and we need to do this at the product level.Any thoughts anyone?Phyllis
gbaby
Did you figure this out Phyllis? I'm in Canada and have the same issue. At this point, I'm willing to pay for a solution! It frustrating as I can see Canadian shops using Magento are able to implement this.HST is two part tax composed of 5% federal (Canada-wide) tax & a provincial portion based on which province you are shipping to. Some products are exempt of the provincial portion. So in Prestashop, we need to be able to set-up some "states" with 2 different tax rates depending on whether the item is exempt of the provincial portion of HST (generally unprepared food, children's clothing, footwear & diapers are exempt of the provincial part of HST).We need 3 different tax rates available to the same product (based on "Product + State Tax"). It needs to be set-up like this: Province: BC | Most Products: 12% HST | Products exempt of provincial portion of HST: 5% taxProvince: ON | Most Products: 13% HST | Products exempt of provincial portion of HST: 5% taxProvince: NS | Most Products: 15% HST | Products exempt of provincial portion of HST: 5% taxFor the past year, I've had it set-up 12% tax as I'm in BC (7% product tax + 5% state tax). This means most products are charged 12% except the exempt items are charged 5%. This means I have to pay out of my own pocket the extra 1% to Ontario, Newfoundland & New Brunswick. And I have to pay 3% out of my own pocket to Nova Scotia. As the majority of my orders are to Ontario, this is really costing me when looked at annually. This is Canadian retailer's site using Magento that shows how it should work: http://www.bynature.ca (Diapers are partially exempt to BC, ON & NS. Most other items are fully taxed).
epicureanfoods.com
Hi gbaby,I believe it is a known bug and has been fixed in version 1.4. We have been modifying our invoices by hand - it looks very unprofessional but at least we are charging the right taxes.Good luck and please let me know if you decide to upgrade to 1.4 and it works!CheersPhyllis
