1.6.1.6 - page goes blank after importing more than 50 products

Hello

 

when I import more than 50 products, the screen goes blank after approx 40-45 seconds. No error messages. I obviously assume that the products have not been imported because of an error. The strange thing is (well I actually don't know if it is strange or normal) when I go back to the back office,  at first I noticed that only some products have been imported, but then when I refresh the page the number of products imported has increased! After several more refreshes, my entire products list has been successfully imported. So my question is, is this normal? Please note that when I import less than 50 products,  I get the "products have been imported successfully" page.

 

I have already turned on php error function, but no error message when the blank page comes up. 

 

I'm using pretashop 1.6.1.6. Any help/clarification would be appreciated. .thanks in advance!

Yes, this is normal. Your browser has timed out, but your server hasn't, so it's continuing to work without your browser knowing.

Thanks rocky for the clarification! I was getting a little worried, but glad to know that this is normal.

 

So lets say I want to import 1000 products, I should expect my browser to time-out, but does this mean that I can continue working on other things in the BO while the products are being imported, slowly but surely, in the background?

Yes, that's right, though I wouldn't edit anything related to the products that are being updated through the CSV file.

 

You'll be happy to know that PrestaShop v1.7 has a new option to be notified by email when the import has finished. Unfortunately, PrestaShop v1.6 doesn't have this option.
