I'm trying to fix SSL errors with netfirms free service trough sslpowered.com

Recommended Posts

I use business hosting from Netfirms.
I have setup a store at fantasyfactoryadult.com (no nudity but please be over 18 before looking at the site)

My problem is that both Firefox and IE show errors with the ssl encryption, IE recomends you abort the transaction (not a healthy thing for conversions).

"The IE Error Message"

There is a problem with this website's security certificate.

The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

If you arrived at this page by clicking a link, check the website address in the address bar to be sure that it is the address you were expecting.
When going to a website with an address such as https://example.com, try adding the 'www' to the address, https://www.example.com.
If you choose to ignore this error and continue, do not enter private information into the website.

For more information, see "Certificate Errors" in Internet Explorer Help.

Netfirms provides me with this information on setting up SSL:

When you visit a secure page and the lock does not display in the lower right-hand corner of the browser, this is because the browser has detected that not all elements on the page are secure. When a page is called via a secure SSL call, the browser checks to make sure that all the elements on it can be loaded securely.

To ensure that the lock appears in the browser (indicating that the page is secure), please re-write all your pages links with https calls, and do not load any external pages.

For instance, to set up and use your shared SSL certificate for your file.html page, simply use:

https://membername.sslpowered.com/filename.html (where "membername" is your Netfirms username) as your address (URL) OR https://yourdomain.com.sslpowered.com/filename.html

If you are not sure what your member name is, it is the same name you use to log into your FTP site.

I need help configuring prestashop to work seemlessly with the shared ssl. If anyone knows how to confiure this I would be greatful for your advise. My goal is to stop the error message so if you know of any script or code to prevent the browsers from scaring the customer with warning messages when it transfers from my domain to sslpowered.com please share.

Thank you.

Shared ssl using this method won't work out of the box I'm afraid, as there's an assumption that the ssl and the non-ssl domains are the same:

i.e. http://www.example.com and https://www.example.com

In your case (which is true of any shared ssl implementation) the second url is a subdomain of another domain (to which the certificate has been issued).

I haven't tried to do this, but it will involve some tricky modification to your store to get it to work, so not recommended unless you have some php skills.

It will work without ssl yes however Microsoft Explorer will attempt to kill your conversions by warning them that it thinks your website is dangerous, but it will do this with any non-ssl encrypted pages that gather data.

I have managed to convert 1 sale in 3 months while facing this hurdle however.

I do wish there was a work around for this ssl issue as Netfirms does provide every client with free ssl. And free beats $300+ hands down.
