Sorting items within a group

Recommended Posts

I would like to put up some items which need customers to at first make some sorting, e.g tyres.

Each tyre has at least 4 parameters according to which a customers wants to make a search. I mean customers just can not open group tyres and start browsing, they need to determine the width, profile and diameter (185/65/R15) and whether they’re looking for winter/summer or all season tyres.

Normally, I would insert these under features and they would appear in section “Data Sheet”. But this does not enable searching by these parameters. Currently as I understand it is not possible to search by attributes nor the features within a group.

One possibility would be to create different groups with all possible features like Summer Tyres 185/65/R15 and Winter Tyres 245/60/R17 but in that case there would be a lot of different groups (+500 at least) and it would be complicated for customers.

Is there coming a new release to make a more sophisticated query within a product group or I have just misunderstood something and it is possible to overcome this issue with existing tools.

All the best and many thanks in advance,
Michael from Estonia

i second your ask about a developement of a sorting function and implementation, maybe with some kind of "key words" we can grouped by nature of feature.
i know that we are always extremely demanding but i hope the Prestateam could have done a little something for the 1.1
thank you

Are you guys talking about some sort of "layered navigation"? ie, you go to a category and then can filter by features / price etc?

Another prominent new-wave e-commerce system does this. I hope I am not breaking any rules by linking to this screencast: http://www.magentocommerce.com/media/screencasts/layerednavigation/view (if I am, can someone delete this?).

If we settle on PS as our next e-commerce platform this is a feature that we would definitely be looking for. In those circumstances I'd be willing to either pledge some money towards someone doing this, or get our team to work on it (depending on who easy PS is to work on in this manner).

Hi
do you know the CMS SPIP ?
The difference with Prestashop (except the fact one is or editing content and the other or e-business)is that you have to learn a very simple langage that replace PHP (to say it quickly) but "in exchange" you can build your page as you want. And in this system, there are keywords, you can groupped together, and it's a very powerfull tool because you can labelised "products" to sort them in multiple way. You speak about price but it could be to make transversal selections and avoid to fill in the base with products put in several folders.

If i understood how Prestashop works, it seems necessary to learn smarty i we want to be abble to change the templates and the selection mode of the differents elements displayed on them, or even create new page

I you want to sort product, there is already a function (check i what i'm saying is really true but i read a thread about it...)
