Tkey1
Hello as the title says, im trying to do that, i've made a new database with a new user and password for that dabatase and imported the old database in there, configured the settings.inc.php file with the user and password i made because i got a database error if i just copy the old information, the database couldn't link. So far i made it to the admin login window of the store, the problem is neither of my credentials work to log in :/ what can i do? what im missing? I can't do a full migration process because the hosting where the old shop is being hosted is full and i cant even backup anything, i cant delete anything because is a client store not mine and for some weird reason the client has a big mess on the public_html, a lot of url sites folder with wordpress installations and more, so i dont know which folders are part of the prestashop installation, i tried comparing them using the fresh installation FTP direction which it only have the installation files nothing else, if i try to download the files the download speed go to 10kb/sec... so it will last like 90 days to download 450mb the full size of the prestashop files. Can someone help me? Edited August 8, 2016 by Tkey1 (see edit history)
Simonas Invertus
Database migration is possible only if you have the same PrestaShop versions in old and new versions. If version are different database structure can be a little bit different. It hard to say more not knowing the versions. As for the problem related to passwords. PrestaShop uses "salt" to encode passwords, so it is not possible just to copy database and expect that old logins will work.

musicmaster
Try copy_shopdata. It was meant for this kind of operation: https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/445453-copy-shopdata-script-for-copying-shop-content-for-upgrade/
