How to use pack?

Ok, say I have:

Item: A
Quantity: 10

Item: B
Quantity: 5

Now, I set up

“Pack” C – contains 1x Item A, 1x Item B

Why in the hell does C carry its own quantity and not rely on available quantities of A and B? In practice it is NOT an item in your catalog, but a combination of items and there should therefor be 5 available since there is only 5 of item B, and furthermore purchasing 1 of “item” c should drop A to 9 quantity, B to 4 quantity, and in effect C to 4 quantity.
