How to setup these products?

We sell tools for the aviation industry.

Many of these tools require calibration. We charge extra for the calibration however, when we have calibration as a separate product, we wouldn't know which item the calibration was for at checkout.

We currently have the calibration as an attribute and it causes the inventory to be "doubled" for the particular tool because we also offer it without calibration.

How can we setup our tools where we only offer this on tools that can have calibration? How would checkout work, like would we know which tool the calibration went to?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only way I can think of is to use the pack tool and create a new product which would combine the product and calibration.

Where on earth is the Pack Tool?
I can't find it anywhere in 1.2.5.0.

We're having difficulty testing this as we don't know how to put the site into a "sandbox" mode for the testing process.

The "Pack" option is on the "1. Info." tab of the product editor. You must click the "Pack" checkbox, then select other products to pack with the current product.

Go to the Preferences tab and change "Enable Shop" to "No" and enter your IP address under "Maintenance IP" so that only you have access to the front office.
