Country selection problem after upgrade to 1.6.1.6

When as a user (customer) have an account and want to buy an item in my (now upgraded shop) I suddenly need to correct my address details: the country was changed to USA and my postal code is no longer valid too (apparently, since NL and USA postal codes differ). When trying to select another country, only USA is in the picklist. 

 

When going to my shop-account and review the address there, the country is correctly presented. When selecting UPDATE then the same error occurs again: country is shown to be USA and the same problems occur. 

 

This behavior is new since 1.6.1.6 and was not present with 1.6.1.5.

 

Any help is appreciated.
