andymontgomery
Does anybody know if this has any relevance to search results or what exactly it does?
mrFox
I believe it helps PrestaShop trace how many people are using their software. It has no positive or negative SEO effect.
Maksym
I believe it helps PrestaShop trace how many people are using their software. It has no positive or negative SEO effect. I don't have any idea how it's possible. It's not a javascript, just meta tag.
mrFox
I'm not exactly sure how they do it.An example: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=<meta+name="generator”+content="PrestaShop”+/>&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a
Maksym
And nothing like online store based on Prestashop. I think this meta tag just add a description of the program you used building website. mrFox
This tag is used by your web design software for marketing and statistical purposes. Search engines ignore it, so you do not need it. This tag serves no purpose for your page. Chances are your site creation software inserted one of these by default, if so, it's okay, just leave it - especially for Open Source generators such as WordPress or Joomla - it's free, so do them the favor! source: http://www.metataggenerator.org/meta-tag-reference/
CraigMeade
I've been given a warning that leaving this alone can let a hacker know what platform you are using and help him hack your website? Does that sound correct and sensible?
Tomas Jancik
I've been given a warning that leaving this alone can let a hacker know what platform you are using and help him hack your website? Does that sound correct and sensible? sure. if the hacker know what platform you're using and there are some security issues, than he has better chances to hack your site
