Making Modules in 1.5.3, not being displayed

Hi all,

 

I followed the official guide on creating modules up to the end of

including the disabling cache part, but the content of display.tpl (or that basic html hello world before that) doesn't displayon the website. 

 

The module installs and works in the back-office without issues. 

I hooked it up and dragged it to the top of left column and header hooks.

 

The site however uses a different than the default theme, I wonder if this might cause it to not display?

 

Anyone got any experience with this? Maybe an idea what could have gone wrong? Any troubleshooting advice would be appreciated.
